Accurate Shooter FORUM FAQ
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

New to the Forum? Having trouble putting photos in your Forum posts? Do you want to place a Classified Ad? This page tells you how to register, make posts, attach photos to your messages, and place classified ads. We address other Frequently Asked Questions as well.

Forum Registration--Getting Started Posting Messages and Starting Threads How to Post a Photo Forum Features and Display Forum Classified Ads Privacy Policy and Personal Data

How Do I Register? It is easy to register for the Forum. All you need is a valid email address. To start, click on the Gray Button at the top right hand corner of the Forum page (see button below). Alternatively, you'll see a text link that says "Register". Either way, this will open a window.

We have three (3) mandatory fields: User Name, Password, and email address. Be sure to write down the password you choose, because passwords are NOT disclosed to Forum Administrators

Once you've completed the form, we will send an email to you to confirm your email address. Click the validation link within that initial email message and you're good to go.

LOST E-MAIL: Sometimes spam filters will block the confirmation message. If you do not hear from us within 24 hours, please email Mailbox@6mmBR.com. We can then manually confirm your status so you can post.

What If I Forget my Password? The Forum has a password recovery procedure. As you log-in to the Forum, you'll see the log-in form has a "Lost Password" link. Click this and you will be prompted to type in your user name. Your password will then be emailed to the email account with which you registered.

NOTE: If you have changed your email address without updating your profile, our system won't be able to deliver your password. So, be sure to keep your email address up-to-date.

If you have forgotten both your password and your user name, well, you're SOL. The Forum administrators do NOT have direct access to your password. This means you'll have to re-register.

How Do I Post a Message? To post in the Forum you can either: 1) Respond to an existing thread; or 2) Start a New Thread. We encourage new visitors to start off by replying to existing threads. Commonly, you'll find that your question has already been asked, or has been covered in a previous thread. Use the SEARCH Function to find threads that pertain to your question.

Starting a New Thread
If you really have a completely new topic to discuss, you can start a new thread. Here's how. First, select a Sub-Forum, such as "Competition Forum". From the Forum home page, click on the sub-Forum Title.

Next, you'll need to create a new Topic. Click on the link for "New Topic" in the middle of the page.

Once you've done this, you will be prompted to add a Subject for the Thread and text for the body of your new post. In the Subject Line, put the important words near the front.

Good Subject Title: Neck-Turning Tools--What Works the Best?
Not-So-Good Title: Got some questions about tools for neck-turning

After typing your Thread Subject and content (which can include a photo), click "Post Message". NOTE: you can choose to subscribe to the thread. This will let you know each time someone replies.

How Do I Delete My Classified Ad? If you have sold your item, or take it off the market, you are required to delete your Advertisement. Our Ads don't have a built-in time limit. If you leave your posting up this clogs the message board and confuses readers who may think the item is still for sale.

It's easy to delete your Classified listing. First, log into the Forum. Then go to your listing in the Classifieds area (your Forum name appears next to the listing). Go to the very first post in your thread. Now click the link that says "Delete". That deletes the Ad and all related posts:

Can I Link to a Photo Hosted Elsewhere? Absolutely. In fact, the simplest way to add in-line photos to a Forum post is to use a third-party host such at Tinypic.com. It is very fast and easy to upload a photo to Tinypic.com and place a link directly into your message. Here's how:

1. Go to www.TinyPic.com. Click "Choose" to select an image on your computer.

2. Click the green "UPLOAD NOW" button. This puts your picture on the internet and takes you to a page with a lot of different lines of codes.

3. With your mouse, Highlight and Copy the second line, under the title "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards". The line from Tinypic.com should look like this: [IMG]http://i13.tinypic.com/5x3c9hd.jpg[/IMG]

4. Go back to the 6BR Message board where you were writing your message. Paste the line you copied from Tinypic.com. Make sure it starts with [IMG] and ends with [/IMG].

Using a Previously-Hosted Photo
If you've already hosted a picture on the web, say on your personal web page or photohost, first get the URL. (You can find that by right-clicking the photo and selecting "properties".)

Now go to the Message Board entry window. You'll see a small icon that looks like a picture frame. Click that. It will ask you for the "Image URL". Type in the URL of the picture. Our software will automatically add the [img] tags.

Now finish writing your post and click "Post Message."

Can I Attach a Photo to My Message? Yes, you can attach a photo to your message. You do NOT have to use a separate website such as PhotoBucket. Your attached photos will then display as a thumbnail.

1. Click on "Manage Attachments" at the BOTTOM LEFT corner of the text window that comes up when you start or reply to a post.

2. This brings up a window that says "File to Upload". Click "Browse" to Navigate to the file on your computer hard drive. Select the photo you want.

3. Click "Upload". That's all there is to it. The software automatically creates a thumbnail picture for you. Thumbnails are handy because they load quickly. People can click the thumbnail to see a bigger version. It will appear in your post, like this:

How Does Private Messaging Work? If you enable Private Messaging (in your profile), Forum members can send you a message that you can read whenever you're online. They can reach you even if you've blocked your email address. We strongly recommend you enable Private Messaging. The system stores up to 80 private messages.

When sending a private message, we recommend you select the "Save" option. This way it is easier to find messages that you've sent.

When you have received a Private Message, above the gray Forum bar it will say "Welcome [Your User Name] - Control Panel - 1 New". If you have Java enabled, an alert screen will also pop up, announcing the new Private Message:

How Do I Make the Type Bigger? With most web browsers (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera, Safari), you can make the type bigger or smaller using your mouse and keyboard.

A. If you have a scroll-wheel on your mouse, hold down the keyboard's "CTRL" key, and move the wheel to change the type size. I-Explorer gets bigger as you roll the wheel forward. FireFox gets bigger as you roll the wheel back.

B. If you don't have a scroll-wheel, hold down the control key and use the + and minus keypad keys. (Better yet, buy a new mouse!)

Where Are the Classified Ads? Our Classified Ad section is part of the regular forum. You'll find the ads at the bottom of the Forum page, under the heading: "Buy, Sell, & Trade Listings".

There are two sections for Classified Ads. The first is for "Guns, Actions, Stocks, & Barrels". The second is for "Tools, Dies, Optics & Misc."

If you're not sure where your sale item should go, use the second (Miscellaneous) category. We want to keep the first category for complete guns and major components. All scopes, rangefinders, spotting scopes should go in the second category.

Is There a Fee to List an Ad? No. All Classified Ads are FREE. There is no charge to post ads, and no commissions or fees on sale. (If you do sell a major item through our classifieds, it would be nice for you to consider making a small, voluntary donation to the site. You can do this via Paypal using the button at the bottom of the Forum page.)

What About Business Advertisements? Our FREE classifieds are provided for private, non-commercial parties only. Businesses should not advertise their services or wares here. Such business ads will be deleted. However, if a gunsmith or stock-maker has a one-of-a-kind return rifle or consignment, it is OK to list that--but this should be a rare instance. Businesses wishing to market products or services can do so by purchasing banner advertising. Click HERE for advertising options and rates.

Will You Sell My Contact Information? Absolutely not. We have NEVER allowed any other entity access to our list of Forum members or email addresses. We have never even sent a bulk e-mail to our own Forum members. Your privacy is assured. Please note that users are not required to supply real names, residence addresses, or phone numbers. We do need a current, valid email address for you.

If you are still having problems after reading the FAQ, you may contact the Forum Moderator
by private message (on the Forum) or via email: Mailbox@6mmBR.com.
