Hi There,
this isn't a 6BR topic but I was wondering if anybody could recommend the best twist for 6.5x284 this will be a competiton rifle for 1000yrds with a 32-34" barrel, I have been advised that 1:8 or 1:8.5 twist was best but which one? I will be shooting 139-142 grain bullets.

Thanks

Why the 8.5 twist? I am in the same boat. I am building a switch barrel Rem 700 in 6mmBR and 6.5x 284. I have not decided on a 6.5mm bullet yet as it will be used on targets at 1000 yrds and beyond. Both paper and varmint.

Any suggestions would be appreciated - paulf

pitch in 6.5 are from 1 in 8 ( slow / long bullet as 6.5x55 ) to 1 in 9 ( very fast long bullet as 264 WIN mag and WSM wilcat )
1 in 8.5 is balanced for 2850/3000 fps with 139/142 grain

you can read a lot on 6.5/284 on

www.long-range.com

good shooting

G'day,

I use an 8,5 Krieger 28" with an Nesika action.
And use 139 scenar bullets, this combination is very fine for me!
This combination is for me the best I could find.
