Newbie here to this great forum. Preparing for long Michigan Winter and I want to build a Target/Varmint in 6BR.

I have access to a Remington 6BR reamer but from reading this forum it appears I may be bucking the trend??
A dear friend gave me a 6mm,10 inch twist stainless barrel that is 22 inch long and chambered for Rem 6BR short. It is already threaded for Rem 700. The barrel has less than 300 rounds thru it.

Should I use this Rem 6BR reamer or wait til I can afford to buy a Norma 6BR? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks - PaulF

PaulF,
What distances do you shoot? For Varmint, the 6mm rem br is all you need, because of the lightweight bullets. The norma br has a long throat, used for heavy bullet and normally combined with 8" twist. This is the choice for shooting distances > 600 yards. But, you can use it with lightweight bullets also. If you ream with the norma br, you can set the bullets longer, so you have more powderspace.

germanvarmint - Thanks for reply.

I shoot 200 to 600 yards with a "big 6br" and may just have to try this Rem 6BR reamer. I will ask my friend if he would like to have his reamer reground to a Norma 6BR. I do not know the cost of regrinding compared to buying or renting a reamer.

What size neck should I request? I was planning to use Lapua brass if that makes a difference. However if I use this Rem 6BR reamer as it is then I will have to use Remington brass.
- thanks, PaulF

Paul, check and see who made the reamer, then call them and ask what it was made to, it just may be a off the shelf std. There may also be a neck spec. on the reamer shank.

I know that Dave Manson makes all of his reamers for Norma/Lapua brass. Neck diameter and throat length will vary depending on what's requested.

The reamer is a jgs with .262 neck. At this point I may as well stick with Rem 6BR and use Remington Brass. The previous barrel owner said the barrel likes AA-2015.

Any load suggestions out there for 88 grain VLD Bergers?

Thanks - PaulF

Paul, can't help with any data, I only have a 22BR at this time, but a 6BR is in the plans for next year.
