PatL,

With the heavy bullets a harder primer is needed. I use CCI BR & CCI 450.

Thanks Mark. What's the difference between the CCI BR and the CCI 450. My rig is set up for LV benchrest. I'm shooting 70 grain Bergers, but am getting ready to try 68 grain Chism's. Is one of those known to be more consistent than the other?

The CCI 450 is the small rifle Magnum Primer. It has a hotter flame. Many people are reporting higher Velocities AND lower ES with this primer. It may just be that it works better with the small primer hole in the 6BR case.

Is the Rem 7 1/2 not well regarded these days? My understanding was that they were originally "The" primers to use in cases this size and the 223Rem type case? Has that changed?

Brian in VA posted this on the Main Message Board and it was moved here:

Will magnum primers improve the accuracy of my 6mm Norma BR? I have a 1-12" twist so I am wondering if the magnum primers, i.e., CCI 450 will help my group size? I've been getting some flyers that I thought might be related to bedding, scope, rings, bases, and now I think maybe primer. My best groups have been with the 58 grain Hornady V-max. Also, can my 1-12" stabilize bullets up to 85 grains? I tried shooting some 85 grain Sierra BTHP and the groups were horrible. I did not see any keyholing in the paper. In other rifles this bullet always shot well.

Brian

P.S. How about the magnum primers for my 7mm BR in an XP-100?
