hello all need some good info here.i would just love to try a 6BR in both score and group matchs but everyone tells me its a waste of time, get a PPC and have it over with...so here is what i want to ask.being new to the game how much real disadvantage would i be at if i go ahead with a 6BR vs a PPC?thanks for your time..roger
I don't think you give up alot in score shooting but in group shooting the 6BR case seems to have a little bit too much capacity for the 66-68 gr bullets.I would post this question on benchrest central and see what the ppc guru's have to say. Lynn
thats how i got over here.i saw someones post over there and they had listed this place for answears..like i said they didnt seem to have much for the 6BR at close range.more help please...roger

I used a rebarreled Savage 12 BVSS-S with a Shilen 1:14 twist chambered for 6 BR with .272 neck this past season for local benchrest score shooting. I think the PPC is a no-brainer for group shooting but the 6 BR will hold it's own. The 6 BR is really coming into its own with the great Lapua brass that's available. My rifle has a 1.25" diameter barrel that tapers down to 1" at the muzzle (22") and is installed without the barrel nut same as a Remington would be. Shooting 68-gr. Bergers and Eubers over 33.8 to 34.0 of Varget will get you lots of groups in the "ones" and most in the "twos". What really makes a big difference is to get a well-inletted BR stock with a 3" flat foreend. I believe that all other things equal, the 6 BR will shoot with the PPC, plus it makes you "different" from the crowd.
I am sending my Savage off to the gunsmith next week for a new Douglas barrel with the same specs as the Shilen and a McMillan BR stock to shoot in LV/HV Varmint for Score next year as a rookie. ---------- ReedG
