I would like to convert a 6PPC to 6BR Lapua no turn. How difficult is this? The chamber would need to be reamed for the 6BR, do I need the 6PPC bolt face modified?

If your bolt face is cut for the .445" of the PPC you'll need to either open it up for.473" or get another bolt. Before I built my BR we tried the brass in a Panda and it wouldn't go under the extractor. It may depend on the manufacturer. Maybe someone else has more experience with this than me.

Gunsmith Mike Bryant has done a number of these conversions. He can open the bolt face up and cut the 6BR chamber for you. The conversions tend to work out very well, Mike tells us, though you end up with a pretty short barrel if you're starting with a 21" or 22" PPC tube.

Here is Mike's contact info:

Many other smiths on the Gunsmiths page are familiar with the task also.

Thanks for the information gentlemen. Since I don't have a lathe my best option is to consult a good gunsmith. Sounds like Mr. Bryant's experience confirms this as a good option.

Hi,

I had my Panda bolt opened up to fit the BR case last month. Jim Kelbly said it was no problem and did an excellent job (also cleaned up the rest of the bolt).
