I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 6.5 BR ? I currently have a 27 ½” 6.5 BR barrel (PacNor 1x8” Hunter Varmint contour) for a switch barrel rifle based on a Stolle single shot Kodiak action, Jewell trigger and a B&D Tracker stock.
My experience so far has been quite favorable. As I have used it solely for F Class shooting I have only used the Sierra 142 grain Match King, the Lapua 139 grain Scenar and the Sierra 140 grain Match King. Powders have consisted of RL-15, Varget and Vihtavori N540 while I have tried the CCI BR-4 & the Federal 205M primers with Lapua brass.
With N540 / 142 MK / BR-4 I have been able to get to 2750 fps but I get better accuracy with Varget at 2650 fps. So far the results with the 139 Scaner has been mediocre. One thing I have found is that up to 600 meters the 140 MK gives better accuracy but beyond 600m the 142 shines.
One interesting thing I have found is that if I prep the flash hole with a Sinclair PPC flash hole reamer my velocities drop 30 fps where as in a 6BR the exact opposite is true ????????
